Match Day!!!
07:00 – Rise and shine..immediately switch on iron before even boiling the kettle..
07:03 “Mummmmmmm is it time for the game yet?”
“No lads..we’ve 4 hours yet!”
07:04 – Put the kettle on for my other half (and goalkeeper coach)
07:05-“Mummmmmmm is it nearly time?”
“No lads there’s STILL 4 hours to go!”
07:10 – Brew time…quick talk over today’s match plans with other half..
07:15 – Go and iron clothes…forget brew…goes cold…
07:30…Make dippy eggs as requested by children on their football health kick (they’re 7)
08:00-“Mummmmm can we get ready for the game now?”
“Not yet!”
08:01-“What about now?”
“Not yetttttttt!”
08:30 – Showered, dressed, fix hair knowing that I’m going to look like a poodle come 12 o clock as the heavens seem to have opened and show no signs of stopping. But nevertheless… That’s the life of a football mum.
08:35 -“Is it time now Mum?” “Not just yet but we’re starting to get ready.”
08:40 – Manage second brew without going cold whilst my children watch the latest Bellingham, Mbappe videos on YouTube, TiK Tok instead of getting their stuff ready.
08:45 – Attempt to sort hair into another manageable style…then think sod it… Where’s my earmuffs?
08:50 – Find said earmuffs in the bottom of smelly football bag…..(no matter how many times it’s been washed it still smells like something crawled in there and died) still go ahead and plan to wear earmuffs…
09:00 – “Mummmmmm “I’m hungry…..”
“Me too mum” (I have twins)
09:01 – Make second breakfast consisting of either fruits/toast or cereal..or all ?
09:15 – A more in depth talk about today’s game with other half who manages to escape most chaos on a morning by standing in the corner of our kitchen pretending to watch drill videos when in fact I know he’s playing ‘spider-man’ or scrolling TiK tok!
09:30- Finally feeling ready for the day.. So now finally agree to let the lads get ready.. Because now after two breakfasts at least I know they’ll just be wearing their kits not their food! Haha..
09:45- Have to get changed due to being absolutely soaked showering the lads…oh my life!
09:46- Our lads do they’re usual presenting themselves as Bellingham and Foden walking down the stairs with their funny commentator voice! ? Other half acts as though he’s never seen it before and their faces beam with amusement.
09:47 – Other half finally gets the bathroom
09:53 – He’s ready…. How is that even possible?!
10:01 – “Mummmmm where’s my gloves?”
“Where’s my coat?”
“Wheres my boots?”
“Where’s my hat?”
“What about my boots?”
WOAH! Wait a minute… Let me finish peeing!
10:02 – Other half helps me sort all above out… He is a good egg sometimes ☺️
10:03 – One last flick through notepad to make sure I’m set.
10:10- Other half sorts boys drinks bottles whilst I sort them some more fruit…I swear they’ve got hollow legs!
10:12 – Hooray..we’re all ready! (I’ve fabreezed my ear muffs…)
10:15- We set off to the match..
10:25- Time to set up for the next 60 minutes ahead of us.
10:55 – Everyone is here apart from the same player who’s I late every week.
11:00 – All systems go…seeing all the smiles on these little ones faces completely makes everything worth while! To know that they all completely look up to me and hang on my every word to find out what happens next is just an amazing feeling. Come 12, we’ve had an excellent match and I notice they’ve all used something we’ve done in training…PASSING THE BALL and FINDING SPACE…I’m majorly impressed! (We’re under 7s) including our goalkeeper who is trained by my other half…when did he grow so tall to reach that top corner?! Those things right there are just golden moments! Our ‘drills’ that we’ve spent the whole week planning have worked!! Woooooo!! (No injuries either…. bonus!!!!!!)
12:04- Even after horrendous weather conditions the lads don’t want to go home! (We must be doing something right!)
12:05- W
e go indoors for drinks and snacks and just a general parent chit chat while the lads all play happily. Couldn’t wish for a better football family, that’s what we are.
1-1:30- home to make lunch… And prepare to relax for whatever game is kicking off at 3…. Give me a football match over a chick flick any day!
I’ve been a football Mum for just over a year now but I’ve always had a love of the game from being a little one myself.. It wasn’t until just after Christmas last year other parents, my partner and myself put our own team together after being unhappy at another local club.. We’re now absolutely flying! We played our first games and had a 2-2 draw and then a 5-0 win!! Which obviously is a bonus… But win, lose or draw we’re proud of each and every single one of our lads.. We haven’t forgotten that football should be fun!
I know I certainly have fun in the run up, during and after training/games… Wouldn’t change it for the world!
A big shout out to all you football Mums out there, there has never been a better time to take the leap, be a coach, be a ref, you’ll never look back. I personally couldn’t think of better ways to spend my weekends ☺️⚽️??
That’s just a very small (although it’s written very long) insight into my very own football world, I imagine most are similar ?
