“Coach, when we get to the Premier League can we build a stadium?? Yes, we will build it on the playing fields” !!!!!

Please help me settle an argument, was I right to say this?

Last week after training my u8s we were all sat down on the ground and one of the players asked me “coach when we get older and are in the premier league, will we get a stadium or just play on the fields”

I had never been asked this before and hadn’t really planned a response so just said what I felt was right and this was my response.

“Kids, what we will do as you get older is buy this field off the council? We will build a huge stadium so everyone on the estate can come and watch us, put some flood lights up so we can play all night, we will get sky sports down to film us, I then went round the group asking if anyone had brothers/sisters who could help out on match days with selling burgers and marking pitch, it was a great intimate interaction between a coach and his players.

The kids were captivated and just for a mini second were kids with dreams and could imagine what it would be like if it happened.

You see I believe that kids have a God given right to dream and believe they can be anything they want and that anything is possible. Why not??

My wife on the other hand completely disagreed with me when I got home and told her, she said I shouldn’t of built up false hope, and told the kids things that would never happen.

I will accept that I’m one of life’s dreamers and my wife is a realist but on this occasion who do you think was right??
