Family Heartbreak as Brother & Sister both diagnosed with Cancer

Hi Grassroots, my name is Phil Bolt,

I have 2 children, George 14 and Connie 12. My son plays for AEK Boco and I am also the coach for my daughter’s under 12’s local grassroots team Longwell Green U12s. Both of them have played football for many years and enjoy it immensely. However they cannot play at the moment.

George was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in July 2019. He has undergone very intensive chemotherapy since this time and is currently receiving a bone marrow transplant. This is an extreme form of treatment which involved full body irradiation and a stem cell transplant. He is in isolation and has been for the past couple of months. He is extremely unwell and at an increased risk of infection and will be for sometime while his immune system rebuilds.

Devastatingly, whilst George was having the transplant, at the end of November, my daughter Connie who is just 12 years old was diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare brain tumour. She is now undergoing cranial radiotherapy and chemotherapy of her own.

We have to wait to see how effective it has been, until then everything is very much uncertain.

Connie’s team (organised by some very good friends of ours in the team and my co-coach) are doing a year of fundraising to raise money for 4 charities that have helped both children. The girls, parents and friends of the Longwell Green U12’s Girls football team have set a number of personal challenges during 2020 to raise money for our four chosen charities in support of Team Bolt.

Please feel free to send any cards to George and Connie here 34 Cadbury Heath Road, Warmley, Bristol, BS30 8BX

We would be so grateful if anyone in the grassroots community can help in anyway please donate HERE
