Important rule changes – Kick-offs can now go backwards and more.

You will have seen the kick offs at the 2016 Euros, with players playing the ball backwards, this is one of the changes to the Laws of the Game for the 2016/17 season.

Sending players off for pre-match fights. Permitting the ball to go in any direction at kick-off. Allowing more players to be treated on the field. Stopping teams benefiting from players being punished.

These are a few of the innovations contained in rewritten laws of the game, overhauled by football’s rule-makers in an attempt to remove inconsistencies and make them more user friendly.

At the bottom of this page is a document highlighting the major changes which will come into effect for next season, it is important that players and managers of teams take the time to have a look at these changes and educate themselves on the different laws referees will be asked to apply, hopefully avoiding any confusion or disputes at matches.

Please take the opportunity to download and read through the attached document taking on board the changes, making sure all your players, management team and where possible supporters are aware of the changes.
