Sporting community comes together to honour Daren Padfield youth coach and player.

A SHOCKED sporting community has been coming to terms with the loss of a “special man” as a son resolves to continue an admired legacy following the sudden and tragic death.

Tributes have been received from far and wide for Wells City footballer and youth team coach Daren Padfield, who died on Friday from head injuries suffered when he was hit by a car on Easter Sunday.

A minute’s applause or silence was held at all Well City games at the weekend, including at the Soccer School. Daren’s family has been at the heart of the club for three generations and his wife, Shelley and children Ross and Keisha joined in with the tributes.

The family were at Wells Football Club as a wreath was laid on the halfway line before the game. A collection is being made by the club on their behalf and has raised more than £500 so far.

Chairman of Wells City FC, Steve Loxton, said it was “an honour” to have the family with the club at the weekend and you could not go anywhere in the city without someone knowing Daren, a man who “commanded the utmost respect from all around him”.
